Development of a cross-platform mobile application for Android/iOS and launching a turnkey Ukrainian online bookstor
Problem
The KSD team faced the scalability challenges. In recent years, the website’s assortment and traffic have grown significantly, thus requiring faster and more stable performance (as its old version processed requests slowly and couldn’t withstand the growing loads). In addition, the company began selling e-books and needed to protect them from piracy. The new development was supposed to fix these issues.
Approach
To implement the required functionality and preserve the brand identity in new solutions, we conducted an end-to-end market and audience research. WEZOM, with KSD specialists, formed a team for brainstorming and selecting the best approach.
Solution
- New eCommerce mobile application
This is a cross-platform mobile application (Android/iOS), which allows users to buy books in a couple of clicks from their smartphones, while providing them with a convenient, built-in reader. The application fully corresponds to one of the KSD’s mottos: “A book in your pocket”.
- Copyright protection
One of the main app’s advantages is a secure online reading experience achieved through a built-in “reader” for e-books, where users can access the text and, thus, don’t have to deal with attached files. At the same time, this makes it impossible to upload books to third-party pirate resources.
- New product cards
UX upgrades included product card redesign – it needed a convenient information structure and a CTA emphasis. We paid particular attention to the digital & print book separation, so that the users don’t get confused and clearly understand what they are going to buy.
- “Bookshelves”
The application’s personal account now has personal library management tools. Users can buy books within the one interface and create their own in-app book collections, which look like real bookshelves.
- Integration with CRM and other tools
The custom mobile app development required third-party services integration for delivery, payment, accounting, and other features needed to implement a seamless shopping experience. Moreover, we integrated the solution with the company’s internal CRM to simplify management.
Used technologies:
- JS, Node.js, Flutter, HTML/CSS, PHP, Laravel, Redis, GraphQL, PostgreSQL
A new page of KSD’s story: a design that makes you want to come back again and again
The release of new products took place in May 2025. So today, we can already talk about the first project success: in three months since the launch, the client has experienced app downloads growth – they surpassed the mark of 48.9 thousand.
At the same time, we ensured traffic retention after website migration, while the new app attracted even a wider audience. Also, we’ve done a great job on the website performance improvement and fixed its crashing under high loads. The first user feedback & satisfaction, as well as boosted improved conversion rates, demonstrated to the client that the users are pleased with fast page load & stability, as well as improved usability & navigation (in comparison with analogs on the Ukrainian market).
Usability and high-traffic website optimization helped us to engage new audiences and increase conversions. Simplified navigation and upgraded product cards now help users find books faster and purchase them in a couple of clicks.
The transition to its own custom online reader was a huge step forward for KSD. On the one hand, it provides users with a convenient and high-quality reading experience. On the other hand, it guarantees content protection, which increases authors' trust in KSD as a publisher with a top-notch anti-piracy solution.
The KSD website modernization is just beginning. The client has big plans ahead: implementing personalized customer experience (specifically, through personalized recommendations), adding new account features and audiobook support, etc. The WEZOM team is glad to become a part of this journey and is ready for continuous product improvement.
